Ronald "Rubber Legs" Costa, 82, of Fall River passed away on Sunday, July 30 on the 3rd floor of Charlton Memorial Hospital overlooking the city he loved so much. He was the son of the late Louis and Adeline Ferreira and Hannibal Costa Sr. Ron worked for the City of Fall River for 38 years advancing his way up from time clerk and foreman to Commissioner of the Department of Public Works. Ron retired in 1997 but went on to work as a Senior Aide for 10 years at the Niagara-Maplewood Senior Center and served on the Fall River Water Board to keep busy. He also served on the Board of Directors for St. Anthony of Padua Credit Union for 60 years. He was a member of the Don Carlos and Young Nationals Clubs.

Ronald was a proud graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School where he was a star in track and baseball. He coached his daughter's St. Jean Baptiste's girls' CYO basketball team. He loved sports especially his Red Sox. Ron was also a phenomenal dancer especially ballroom, jitterbug, polka and more and would go twice a week locally in his retirement. In his younger days, he also liked to play cards and meet up with friends at Billy's Café.

Ronald was a very easy-going, even-tempered gentleman who always had a smile on his face and a quick wit. He was selfless, generous, a family man, and a devoted father. His optimistic spirit and impeccable work ethic served him well in the last few years as he faced serious health challenges and strokes that required intense and lengthy rehabilitation.

He is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Melissa Costa Doyle of Fall River; a brother, Hannibal Costa Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Tiverton; a sister, Patricia McCoy and her husband Al of Fall River; former wife Roberta Costa, and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, August 5th, in Holy Trinity Parish Church. His private cremation followed.
