Ronald Albert
"Ron/Ronnie" Raposa
d. Feb 18, 2024
Ronald Albert "Ron/Ronnie" Raposa, 80, of Fall River, husband of the late Maureen (Tavares) Raposa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Born in Newport, RI on April 10, 1943, he was a son of the late Arthur Raposa and the late Mary (DeCosta) Raposa. Raised in and spending much of his life in Tiverton, RI, he became an eventual resident of Fall River, MA.
In his youth Ron was a member of the Rhode Island Wing Civil Air Patrol and a member of the Holy Ghost Parish. At the age of 19, while roller skating at Lincoln Park in Dartmouth, MA, he met his late wife and love, Maureen. They later married and began a family.
Professionally, Ron worked as a Machinist, specializing in CNC Lathe, CAD, Manual Machining, & Toolmaking. He was employed for many years at New England Tool, and the Double E Company based in Massachusetts. An avid Sportsman, Ron was a longtime member of the Tiverton Rod & Gun Club. Having a deep respect for the land and animals, he passed on these values on to his children and grandchildren.
Along with fishing and hunting, Ron could often be found working on and rebuilding both automobiles and engines, taking in a Bruins game, listening to classic rock, cheering for his favorite NASCAR drivers, reading the daily paper with a cup of tea nearby, and taking his wife Maureen for coffee frappes, on drives around Tiverton and Little Compton, or to the movies.
He is survived by his five children, Scott (Cheryl) Raposa of Goldsboro, NC, Tracey (David) Costa of Taunton, MA, Bryan (Yoko Webber) of Franklin, NH, Kathleen (Paul) Trenholme of Somerset, MA, and Melissa R. Raposa of Lebanon, NH ; his five grandchildren, Megan Raposa of Providence, RI, Benjamin Raposa, Sara Costa, and Elizabeth and Samuel Trenholme; two sisters, Sandra Soucy (Richard) of Flowery Branch, Georgia, and Noreen Thurston (Tracy) of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Joseph Raposa of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Janet (Raposa) Price.
Remembered as being friendly and kind, always willing to help, and ready to tell a corny joke, he will be deeply missed.
His Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 24th, during a visitation period in our Fall River Chapel followed by a private cremation. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in Ronald's memory to: The Tiverton Rod and Gun Club, P.O. Box 115, Tiverton, RI 02878 or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, Maryland 21741.
