Obituary

Rose M. (Martinville) Syde, age 71, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Friday July 29, 2022. Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Philodore and Laurence (LaFrance) Martinville. She was a resident of New Bedford, Fall River, Dartmouth, Somerset and Swansea.

She attended Diman Vocational High School and worked as a manager at United Merchants and Manufacturers in Fall River for many years followed by Balfour in Attleboro in the finance department. After leaving Balfour, she worked at Serta Mattress Company in Middleborough for more than 20 years as an accountant.

She was a former member of Notre Dame Parish in Fall River and was an active communicant of the St. Louis DeFrance parish in Swansea.

As an avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching and attending games especially baseball, hockey, golf, football and tennis. She was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed, whether winning or losing, cheering on the Red Sox and Patriots. She enjoyed bowling in the Charlton Memorial Hospital League for many years, spending time with family especially her son, traveling to New Hampshire and eating out with friends. She was never shy about having a good time or making new friends.

Rose is survived by her brother, Roger Martinville (wife Peggy) of Warren, RI; sister, Diana (Martinville) Bettencourt of Fall River; brother-in-law, William Hardin of Westport; and son, Shawn T. Syde (wife Kathlene) of Fall River; as well as nieces, nephews and a godchild. She was the sister of the late Helene Hardin and Anthony Martinville and sister-in-law of the late Ernest Bettencourt.

Following a private cremation, a memorial visitation period was held on Monday, August 8th, in our Fall River Chapel. On Wednesday, August 10th, her cremains were laid to rest with a committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery followed by A Celebration of Rose's Life at Magoni's Restaurant in Somerset.
