Ruth A. Souza, age 70, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, following an illness. She was the widow of Manuel G. Souza. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Mary O. Farias and the late Antone Farias. A resident of Somerset since 1972, she was employed in the garment trade for many years as a sewing machine operator at the former Merit Dress Manufacturing Company in Fall River, and was also a school bus operator with Fisher Bus in Somerset. Ruth was a communicant of St. John of God Church in Somerset. She leaves four children; Karen A. Desjarlais of Somerset, Gina L. Mello of Fall River, Kevin P. Souza of Somerset, and Keith Wilkinson of Somerset, a brother, Harold Farias of Pennsylvania, two sisters; Jacqueline Costa of Portsmouth, RI, and Mary Grace Cyr of Fall River, five grandchildren; Katie, Alexandra, Kara, Jacob & Owen; and several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, July 11, in St. John of God Church followed by her committal at Nathan Slade Cemetery.
