Born in Cranston, R.I., a son of the late Nichola Ruggieri and the late Mary (LaRocca) Ruggieri, he lived in Fall River most of his life.
He was employed for many years at the former Narragansett Brewery; and also worked as a carpenter for a time. He was a member of the Fiddlers of Rhode Island for many years, the Square Dance Clubs of RI and MA, and often played with the Jammers of Rehoboth. Sal also enjoyed gardening and designing kites; and was an avid reader and perfectionist in his work and hobbies.
Besides his wife, he leaves: two daughters, Diane Mintel (husband Joe) of Johnston, RI, and Donna Ruggieri of Santa Anna, California; a step-daughter, Kerri Lopes of Fall River; two brothers, Nichola Ruggieri, Jr. and John Ruggieri both of Cranston, RI; two grandchildren, Justin Krakowsky, Jacklyn O'Hara (husband Colin); three step-grandchildren, Elisa Freitas. Preston Francoeur, and Parker Lopes; two great grandchildren, Evelyn O'Hara and Cortland O'Hara; several nieces and nephews. He was also a brother of the late Eleanor Moroni (husband Anthony of Cranston) and Louise Ruggieri.
His funeral arrangements were private.
