Silvano DeMelo Camara, 97, of Fall River, husband of the late Maria Jose (Modesto) Camara, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 11, 2019 after a brief illness. Born in Ribeira Grande, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel Isabel and Adelina (DeMelo) Camara. Prior to his retirement, he was a maintenance man at American Tourister  for many years. He loved soccer, hockey, and gardening. He also enjoyed family gatherings and telling his stories from back in the day. He leaves: his daughter, Carmelia Costa (late-husband, Adriano) of Fall River, Americo DeMelo and his wife, Manuela, of Swansea, and Arthur Camara and his wife, Anne Marie, of Dartmouth; six grandchildren, James Costa, Jerry Costa, Melissa Camara, Nicole Santos, Joshua Camara, and Kassandra Silva-Camara; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Maria DeCarmo DeMelo; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Joao DeMelo. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, May 16th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
