Fall River

Obituary

Silvina Cabral, of Fall River, widow of Joao R. Cabral, passed away at home on Friday, July 3, 2020. Born in Feteira Grande Nordeste, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Jose Placido, Jr. and the late Maria Luiz Medeiros, she emigrated to Fall River in 1968.

She had worked in the local textile industry for many years, at the former Bristol Knitting Mills, and later at the former AMI Candles for about 10 years, after which she retired to help raise her grandchildren. She was a parishioner of the former Sts. Peter & Paul Church.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, and reading. Silvina also enjoyed travelling, especially with her sister, Louisa.

She is survived by: three children, Ana Cabral (husband Manuel) of Fall River, Louis Cabral (wife Loree) of Somerset, and John Cabral (wife Nanette) of Pleasant Hill, California; two sisters, Conceicao Medeiros of St. Michael, Azores, Maria Filomena Romao of Mississauga, Canada; five grandchildren, Nichole Sherman (husband Josh) of Somerset, Matthew Cabral of Sydney, Australia, Damien Cabral (wife Sarah) of No. Providence, R.I., Zackary Cabral of Somerset, and Shane Cabral of Somerset; two great grandchildren, Jeremy Ferro and Xander Sherman; many nieces and nephews. She was also a sister of the late: Maria Louisa Medeiros, Deolinda Placido, Manuel Placido, Maria Jose Simoes, Rosa Pimental, Isaria Placido, Ana Barbosa, Louisa Botelho, and Natalina Medeiros – in addition to five siblings who died in infancy.

Due to the COVID pandemic, Silvina's private funeral was held on Tuesday, July 7th, from our Fall River Chapel with the celebration of Her Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Cathedral followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.

When the current crisis has abated enough for large gatherings to again take place, Silvina's family is planning to arrange for a Celebration of Life, to which extended family and friends will be invited – and details will be announced here.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to share in-person kindness and support. But because of the pandemic, we are all urged to express sympathy online or by mail.

To ensure that said condolences reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Silvina's memory to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
