Silvina de Jesus (Martins) Silva, 87, of Fall River, widow of Jose T. Silva, passed away peacefully on Friday 12/31/10 on her 87th birthday surrounded by her loving children at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Rabo de Peixe, Sao Miguel, Acores, daughter of the late Antonio Caetano & Maria Paixao Martins, she emigrated to Fall River in 1966. A member of Espirito Santo Church Holy Rosary Sodality, she was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, crocheting, gardening, card-playing & being the matriarch of the family. Survivors include: 8 children, Judy Tavares (husband Paulo), Isaltina Silva (husband Jose do Carmo) & Gabriela Massa (husband Olimpio) all of Somerset, Sylvia LePage (husband Michael) of Tiverton, Tony Silva (wife Natalia) of Westport, Tina Silva (husband Tony) of Portsmouth, Dora Treacy (husband John) of Dighton and Donatilde St.Gelais of Freetown; also mother of the late Jose M. (wife Joyce) of Swansea; 20 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren; a sister, Genoveva Maiato of Montreal; also sister of the late Antonio Martins, Olimpio Moreira & Josephina Medeiros; several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was concelebrated on Wednesday, January 5, in Espirito Santo Church followed by committal services and entombment at the Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
