Sophie "Ruth" Luiz, 79, of Fall River, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 8, 2010. She was the wife of Zulmiro "Jimmy" Luiz, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Rashid "Richard" and Gemily (Rayhall) Habib. Along with her husband Jimmy, Ruth owned and operated Luiz & Sons Chourico Shop, established in 1939. She loved playing bingo, traveling and enjoyed her time spent at the Riverview Adult Day Health Care. Ruth is survived by a son, James Luiz (wife Lina) of Fall River; a daughter, Cindy Oliveira (husband David) of Swansea; a brother, Edward Habib of Beverly Hills, CA; a sister, Yvonne Fail of Jacksonville, FL; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also mother of the late Wayne Luiz and sister of the late James Habib, Louis Habib, Alice Telage, Joan Whittington, Lillian "Tina" Briggs, Jean Jackson, Agnes "Peggy" Graves, Nellie Douglas, Theodore Habib, Emily Duquette and Betty Gersbach. Following her cremation, a memorial gathering and service was held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 2.
