Stanley Pomprowicz, age 83, of Swansea, Massachusetts, passed away at home on Thursday, August 6, 2009, following an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Savitch) Pomprowicz.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Andrew Pomprowicz and the late Louisa (Targ) Pomprowicz.
A resident of Swansea for most of his life, he was a highly skilled cabinetmaker. With his partner Red Ramunno of the former Redi Construction Company, they built many homes in the in Swansea area. After Red's retirement, Stan continued to put his skills to good use as a federal employee, working for twenty-three years at the Navy Base in Newport, Rhode Island, until his retirement in 1987.
A Veteran of the United States Navy, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of World War II. Among other awards received for his service, he earned three stars.
Stan was a member of the American Legion Post 303 in Swansea, where he enjoyed playing cards in their Pitch League. An avid bowler, he competed for many years in various leagues at the former Westport Bowlaway and also enjoyed frequent recreational bowling with his family in Westport and other local lanes.
In addition to "Dottie", his wife of sixty-one years, family members include his daughter, Joyce Sirois and her husband Arthur of Swansea, his grandson Richard Hamm, Jr. and his wife Sarah of Mashpee, MA, his great grandson Owen Hamm of Mashpee, three step-grandchildren Michael Sirois and wife Cathy of New Hampshire, Lori Grillo and husband Paul of Swansea, Tami Genereux and husband Derek of Texas, great grandchildren Michael & Melissa Sirois of NH, Aaron & Ethan Grillo of Swansea, and Sara, Katy & Sophie Genereux of TX, a sister-in-law, Eileen Pomprowicz of Swansea, former son-in-law Richard Hamm, Sr. of Swansea, nieces and nephews, Gail McLane, Joseph Pomprowicz, Gary Pomprowicz, Alan Pomprowicz and Linda Miranda, all of Swansea, Carol Monast of Florida, Edward Pomprowicz and Gloria Pomprowicz, both of North Dartmouth, and Henry Pomprowicz, John Pomprowicz and Walter Pomprowicz, all of Fall River.
He was also the grandfather of the late Jason Hamm, and the brother of the late Joseph W. Pomprowicz, Mary Yates, Henry Pomprowicz, Edward Pomprowicz, Mitchell Pomprowicz and Josephine St. Michael.
His memorial service was held near his home by Coles River on Saturday, August 22.
