Susan Franco Chadinha, 59, daughter of Gilda (Medeiros) Franco and the late John Franco, died peacefully at home on January 8, 2015 after a brief but courageous battle with gastric cancer. She was married to her husband, Michael, for more than forty years. In addition to her husband and mother, she leaves her sons, Matthew and his wife Jennifer of West Chester, PA, Michael John and his wife Heather of Peterborough, NH, and her daughter Andrea Simoes and her husband Ricardo of Swansea, MA. She had a special place in her heart for her only granddaughter, Olivia Rose Chadinha, also from West Chester, PA. She is also survived by her brother Carlos Franco and his wife Kate, her step-grandson Eli, her sister-in-law, Paula Tucker, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, Susan immigrated to the United States as a young girl, graduated from Bishop Gerrard High School, Class of 1973, continuing her education at Newport Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1978. She practiced her passion for nursing for many years and eventually became a traveling Director of Nurses for Epoch Senior Health Care. She was a caring, knowledgeable and respected specialist in elder health care and was Board Certified in Gerontology. She also had an avid avocation. Sue was passionate about designing and creating her own custom jewelry and was known among her peers for her unique and intricate bead and wire work. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach, especially at her retreat in South Carolina. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, January 14, in St. Francis of Assisi Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
