Sylvester "Sy" Vilela, 83, of Swansea, husband of Theresa D. (Sanson) Vilela, died unexpectedly Friday 5/16/14 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in Somerset, son of the late John & Emelia (Moraes) Vilela, a graduate of his beloved Somerset High School and member of its Hall of Fame, he was a car salesman for many years, and a longtime employee of Silva-Faria Funeral Homes. A great lover of sports, family & life, he always had an infectiously positive attitude. Besides his wife, of 60 years, he leaves: 3 children, Linda Fisher (husband Jim), Pamela Welch (husband Bill) & John Vilela; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. Also brother of the late Manuel & Gloria Moraes, Joseph & Albert Vilela. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, May 20, in St John of God Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Somerset.
