Sylvia Velazquez, 79, of Fall River, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at R.I. Hospital. Born in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Eladio Velazquez and the late Marta Ortiz, she resided in New Bedford most of her life, having lived in Fall River for just the past three years,.

Devout in her Catholic faith, she enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sylvia also enjoyed watching telenovelas and solving puzzles.

She is survived by: three children, Maria Flores, Juan J. Flores, and Moises Flores (wife Christina) all of Fall River; three siblings, Modesto Nuñez and Luis Velazquez both of Puerto Rico and Jose Velazquez of New York; nine grandchildren, Erik Flores, Rafael Flores, Jonathan Flores, Destini Flores, Jorge Flores, Derek Flores, Jadiel Flores, Adrian Flores, and Yomiah Flores; two great grandchildren, Amiyah Flores and Romeo Flores; and many nieces and nephews. Sylvia was predeceased by her son, Jorge Antonio Flores, and 15 siblings.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, September 25th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by a private cremation.
