Obituary

Telma (Melo) Borges, age 54, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, following an extended battle with Diabetes. She was the wife of Joseph H. Borges of Fall River. Born in the city of Praia da Vitoria, on the island of Terceira in the Azores, she was a daughter of Evangelina (Agusta) Melo of Methuen, MA, and the late Eduardo Melo. After residing in the Azores for eighteen years, she immigrated to Lawrence, MA, in 1977 and was employed as an electronics assembler at the former ITT Plant in Methuen, MA. A resident of Fall River since 1990, she was naturalized as a citizen of the United States with her husband in 1994 at a special ceremony held aboard the USS Massachusetts. Telma was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church on Alden Street in Fall River. In addition to her husband, Joseph, and her mother, Evangelina, surviving family members include her daughter, Malinda Borges of Fall River, a sister, Eduarda Leal (husband Edwin) of Methuen, MA, two brothers; Helio Melo (wife Teresa), and Joseph G. Melo (wife Deolinda), both of Salem, NH, three grandchildren; Alex J. Frizado, Anthony Frizado and Aryana E. Frizado, all of Fall River, and many nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, March 7, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
