Teresa (Goncalves) Borges, age 72, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Country Gardens Skilled Nursing Center in Swansea. She was the widow of Jose S. Borges. Born in the village of Bretanha, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joao Goncalves and the late Conceicao (Pereira) Goncalves. After residing in the Azores for thirty six years, she moved to Fall River in 1977 and was employed as a threader for many years in the textile trade of this city at the former Quaker Fabric Corp. She was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church on Alden Street in Fall River and was a member of their Church Choir. Teresa, known as a bit of a prankster, most enjoyed sharing the inevitable laughter in the company of her grandchildren. Surviving family members include three sons; Jose Luis Borges (wife Jovita) of Somerset, Cristovao G. Borges (wife Rochelle) of New Bedford, and Nelson Scott Borges (wife Stephanie) of Fall River, a daughter, Nelia M. Simas (husband Joseph) of Swansea, a brother, Luis Goncalves of Sao Miguel, eight grandchildren; Joseph Simas, Patrick Simas, Kia Borges, Seth Borges, Isaac Borges, Abigail Borges, Cyrus Borges, and Emelin Borges, three great grandchildren; Adrianna Simas, Benjamin Simas, and Dylan Costa, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Joao Goncalves, Antonio Goncalves and Jeremias Goncalves. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 5, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
