Obituary

Teresa J. Silva, 73, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 20, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Vieira Melo and Deolinda Melo.

Teresa is survived by: her children, Theresa Cabral and her husband Christopher, Antonio DaSilva and his wife Amy, and Marta Mercer; as well as her grandchildren, John Silvia and his wife, Jessica, Greta Mercer, Alexander DaSilva, and Ethan DaSilva. She is also survived by her three sisters, three brothers, and several beloved nieces and nephews. Teresa is preceded in death by her husband Antonio V. DaSilva and her brother Manuel Melo.

Teresa will be kept in loving memory for being the strong, loving matriarch who placed family bonds and love above all else. The echoes of her teachings, patience, strong work ethic, reliability, and faith will keep her memory alive as they live on in those who survive her and will be passed along for generations to come.

Teresa was gifted with the ability to see the natural wealth bestowed upon all of us by our Heavenly Father. She delighted in her gardens, traditional Portuguese food, and kept the memory of her late loved ones alive through reminiscing, while making beautiful new memories daily with her children and grandchildren.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, September 5th, at Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery both in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Teresa's memory to "Southcoast Health at Home" Philanthropy Department, 141 Page St, New Bedford, MA 02740; 508-973-3470; https://www.southcoast.org/at-home/donate/ .
