Thomas DeVido, 90, of Somerset, husband of Maria E. (Vieira) DeVido, died Wednesday 6/5/13 after a long illness. Born in Fall River, son of the late Anthony & Mary (Bortolot) DeVido, he lived in Somerset for the past 50 years. A BMC Durfee High School graduate, Class of 1941, he also attended Thibodeau Business College, American Institute of Banking, New England School of Banking at Williams College, attained his B.A., cum laude, from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth), and pursued graduate studies in Economics and Banking at Stonier School of Banking Rutgers University. An Army veteran of World War II stationed 1942-1946 in New Caledonia, Luzon and the Philippines, he also served in the Army National Guard of Massachusetts 1952-1955 as a Sergeant Major. 1947-1985 he held positions of Director, Clerk of the Board, Treasurer, Vice President and Executive Vice President at BMC Durfee Trust Company (Durfee Attleboro Multibank), and volunteered as: Treasurer of the Credit Bureau of Greater Fall River; Director, Treasurer & Auditor of the United Way of Greater Fall River for 40 years, starting with the Red Feather Campaign in 1955; Director & Treasurer of the USS Massachusetts Memorial Committee (10 years); Director & Committee Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Fall River (receiving the Outstanding Community Service award in 1976). He was also a member of Quequechan Club, Fall River Lions Club, Fall River Historical Society, Somerset Historical Society, American Philatelic Society & Touisset Country Club – and enjoyed the thrill of shooting a 'hole-in-one' 3 times in his 40 years of golfing. Besides his wife, of 57 years, he leaves: 2 children, Robert DeVido of Hendersonville, TN, Elizabeth McDonald (husband Michael) of Somerset; 3 grandchildren, Rebecca McKinnon (husband John) of Raynham, Amy Lamboy (husband Justin) of Swansea, Melissa DaRosa (husband Scott) of Somerset; a great grandson, Matthew John McKinnon; several nieces & nephews. He was also brother of the late Eugene DeVido. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, June 10, in St Patrick Church, Somerset, followed by his committal with military honors at St Patrick Cemetery, Somerset.
