Urania R.
Tabicas
d. Oct 21, 2023
Urania R. Tabicas, 71, of North Dartmouth, wife of Luis Tabicas, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospital. Born in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, a daughter of the late Jose R. Papoula and the late Rosa (Resendes) Papoula, she emigrated to Fall River in 1968.
She was employed in the local textile industry for many years and later worked for several years as a residential caregiver for individuals with special needs. A very devout Catholic, Urania was always involved in church activities, serving as CCD teacher at both her former parish of Our Lady of Grace and at St. Anthony of Padua where she was a longtime member of the Holy Rosary Society. In 2018, Bishop Edgar M. da Cunha awarded her the Marian Medal in recognition of her dedicated service to the Church. Urania also enjoyed cooking, homemaking, and caring for her family, where she was the glue that held everyone together.
Besides her husband, of 54 years, she is survived by: three children, Sandra Tabicas DaRosa (husband Adelino) of Fall River, Diane R. Tabicas (John Garcia) of Fall River, and Tracy R. Tabicas of Guiton, GA; four siblings, Manuel R. Papoula, Zelia Pimentel, Natalia Botelho, and Zenaide Farias all of Fall River; three grandchildren, Crystal Moreira (husband Joshua), Tyler Garcia (fiancée Syrina Camara), and Lexy Garcia; two great grandchildren, Cole and Kingsley; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, October 25th, at St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at Oak Grove Cemetery both in Fall River. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Urania's memory to the St. Anthony of Padua Church, 48 16th St, Fall River, MA 02723; 508-673-2402.
