Violante Melo, 96, of Covel Street, died on April 1, 2008 unexpectedly. Widow of Augusto Raposo Melo. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late Manuel Caetano and Maria Helena (Brum) Pereira. She was a retired machine operator. She was the mother of George Mello and the late Fernando and Helena Mello and sister of the late Manuel, Joao, Jose and Antonio Caetano Pereira, Maria Rodrigues, Helena Moniz, Fernanda Medeiros and Maria Batista. She also leaves 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Pallbearers were Richard, Steve, Paul and Mike Mello, John Pereira and Ed Batista. Committal Service was held at Notre Dame Cemetery.
