Virgil B. Tabicas, age 48, of Westport, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, December 11, 2009. He was the husband of Virginia (Fournier) Tabicas. Born in the village of Agua Retorta, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was the youngest child of Maria (Botelho) Tabicas, of Fall River, and the late Luis F. Tabicas. After residing in Sao Miguel for five years, his family immigrated to Fall River on March 1, 1966. A Fall River resident most his life, he has lived in Westport for four years. Virgil worked construction for most his life and has been employed as an operator since 2002 by Revoli Construction of Needham, Massachusetts. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (AFL-CIO) Local 4, and a former member of the Laborer's International Union of North America, Local 610. In addition to his wife and mother, surviving family members include a son, Virgil B. Tabicas of Fall River, a daughter, Joy M. Tabicas and her fiancé Bobby Rego of Westport, a grandson Christian R. Rego of Westport, three brothers; Manuel Tabicas and Jose Tabicas, both of North Dartmouth, and Louis Tabicas of Fall River, a sister, Cidalia Pimentel of North Dartmouth, and many nieces & nephews. On Tuesday, December 15, friends and family gathered at the Silva-Faria Funeral Home before departing for a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Following the service, pallbearers Alan Thibault, Bobby Rego, Alan Thibault, Mike Tabicas, Steve Tabicas, Sergio Lima, Johnny Teixeira, and William Thibault brought Virgil to his final resting place in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
