Virgilio G. Melo, 78, of Fall River, passed away at Charlton Memorial Hospital Tuesday (2/10/09) surrounded by family. He was the husband of Ema (Pereira) Melo. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, son of Joao & Maria Jose (dos Santos) Melo, he emigrated to Fall River in 1969 and was employed in the local textile industry for 9 years. He enjoyed listening and participating in Portuguese talk shows on the radio. Besides his wife, survivors include: daughters, Luisa Harris (& her husband Bill) of St. Petersburg FL, Maria Reed (& her husband Michael) of Tiverton RI, and Sandra Reis (& her fiancé Mark Ferreira) of Fall River; sister, Elisa Ribeiro of Lisbon, Portugal; grandchildren, Alexandria Reis, Megan & Bethany Reed, Jason & Joshua Faria, and Jacob & Joshua Ferreira. His Funeral Mass was celebrated in Espirito Santo Church on Friday (2/13) with committal services following at Notre Dame Cemetery.
