Virginia A. (Mello) Fonseca, 89, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2020. She was the wife of the late William Fonseca.

Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marianne Mello.

Prior to her retirement, she had been employed in the garment industry as a sewing machine operator for many years.  Mrs. Fonseca was a member of the Senior Sweethearts and was very active in her church, where she sang in the choir, was a part of the Holy Rosary Society, the Women's Guild and taught CCD for most of her life.

She is survived by: her children, William R. Fonseca and his wife, Cheryl, of Swansea, Richard Fonseca and his wife, Christine, of Attleboro, and Maryana Yangui and her husband, Achref, of Somerset; 7 grandchildren, Jim, Richard, Greg, Craig, Jessica, Jeremy and Jake; 3 great grandchildren, James, Abigail Rose and Bella Rose. She was also the grandmother of the late Jeffrey Fonseca and sister of the late Ernie Travis and the late Joe, Manny, and Jimmy Mello.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, January 15th, in St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by her committal at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
