Viriato R. Carreiro, 66, of Fall River, husband of Luisa (DeJesus) Carreiro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Marcelino Carreiro and the late Martina (Raposo) Carreiro .

Prior to his retirement, he was a manager for Quaker Fabrics for many years. An avid sports fan, especially football and basketball, he also loved bowling. Viriato enjoyed traveling to his homeland and going on cruises with his family. But what was most important to him was spending quality time with his family, especially his grandsons.

Besides his loving wife of forty-seven years, he leaves: his son, Michael J. Carreiro and his wife, Natalie, and his daughter, Karen J. Carreiro, both of Fall River; two grandsons, Evan M. Carreiro and Aidan M. Carreiro; a sister, Isaura Bananca and her husband, Arthur, of Fall River; sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Carreiro, of Fall River, Rebecca Carreiro, of Ohio, Kathy Batista and her husband, Roy, Manuela Couto, and Alice DeJesus, all of Fall River, and Helen Cabral and her husband, Luis, of Westport; brother-in-laws, Joseph DeJesus and his wife, Lucy, of Westport and Natalino DeJesus and his wife, Margaret, of Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Luis Carreiro and the late Carlos Carreiro, brother-in-law of the late Luis DeJesus, and son-in-law of the late Natalino DeJesus and the late Maria Conceicao DeJesus.

Due to the COVID pandemic, Vic was laid to rest on Monday, November 16th, with a private committal service at St. Patrick Cemetery. When the current crisis allows, his family is planning to celebrate his life with a Memorial Funeral Mass, the details of which will be announced here.
