Vital "Vic" Pereira, 88, husband of Dolores "Del" (Lima) Pereira, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Agostinho and Mary (Cavallaro) Pereira. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Vic served our country during the Korean War. Before his enlistment in 1951, he worked for Freedman Shoe for several years. Upon his discharge, he returned to the shoe business as a supervisor at Stride Rite Shoe for twenty years and then as a foreman at Foot Joy, from where he retired. "The Face of Golf" at the Fall River Country Club for thirty-eight years, not only as a member, but also a ranger, an assistant in the Pro-Shop and, for many years, he ran the winter "ABCD" tournaments and the Men's Summer League, which now bears his name. Vic was most beloved and renowned for his joke telling. Many a golf outing would not conclude without Vic leaving the crowd in stitches and encouraging him for more. Besides his wife of sixty-two years, he leaves many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Elena Mendes. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, October 25th, in Holy Name Church followed by his committal with military honors at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
