Obituary

William K. Coady, 94, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 in the comforts of his home following a period of declining health. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late John A. Coady and the late Mary A. (Greaney) Coady.

Prior to his retirement in 1993, he was a teacher in the Language Department at B.M.C. Durfee High School. His distinguished teaching skills were applied to Classical Latin. His teaching career spanned over thirty-seven years, beginning as a high school teacher and counselor in the Department of Defense School for Military Dependents in Bavaria, Germany. He returned to the United States after completion of his contract with the Department of Defense and began his teaching career in the Fall River School system. William received his early education in St. Patrick's Grammar School, after which he attended and graduated from Monsignor Coyle Memorial High (Magna Cum Laude) in Taunton where he received the Monsignor O'Reilly Gold Key for Excellence in Religion.  He attended and graduated from Providence College (Class of 1951) then transferred to St. Mary's University in Maryland where he earned his undergraduate degrees. He returned to Massachusetts and subsequently received his Master's in Education from Bridgewater State College. William held lifetime memberships in the Classical Association of New England and in the Teachers of Classical Latin of Massachusetts.

"Bill" was the definition of a true gentleman, a dedicated educator, and, most importantly, a devoted and loyal son, brother, and friend. An avid reader, he also loved his daily walks. In recent years, he very much enjoyed long rides, especially by the ocean. His favorite route (one that he exclaimed "I will never get tired of") was heading into Tiverton and into Little Compton ending up on Warren's Point and Sakonnet  Point. He was unquestionably delighted and at his happiest when these outings fell on a warm, bright, sunny summer day. Perfectly content riding in his van enjoying a cream-filled donut from Leddy's Bakery while sipping on his coffee milk from Arruda's Dairy, or slurping up a coffee cabinet from Delekta's Pharmacy in Warren. William relished in the simple joys in life that many of us, unfortunately, take for granted. He will be sorely missed and remembered with great fondness by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Joyce Ann Coady (late husband, James E. Coady) of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and his long-time friend and caregiver, Paul St. Louis, his wife and children.  He also leaves his dedicated team of home health aides who cared for him over the last several years until his passing: Gabriela, Susana, Maria L., Catherine, Moses, Maria B., Myra, Ana, and Kristen; and his dear friends, the Cipollinis: John, Nina, and Mario and their spouses. He was the brother of the late John A. Coady, Jr., Joseph D. Coady, James E. Coady, Reverend Francis M. Coady, Vincent A. Coady, and Edward J. Coady and nephew of the late Sister Mary Assumpta, R.S. M.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, August 28th, in Holy Name Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation in William's memory to: Abundant Hope Pregnancy Resource Center, 152 Emory St., Unit 4, Attleboro, MA 02703 or St. Anne's Shrine Preservation Society, 818 Middle St., Fall River, MA 02721.
