William Arthur Compton, 100, of Fall River, formerly New York, husband of the late Eleanor "June" Compton and the late Dorothy (Elliot) Compton, passed away at St. Anne's Hospital on Saturday, May 24, 2025. Born in Orange, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Walter David Compton and the late Lucy (Ghee) Compton.
He attended local public schools and after graduating from high school, William entered the US Army where he served until 1944. Following his discharge, he went to work for the Department of Defense as a Contracts Administrator later retiring from that position as the Chief Contract's Administrator. Following his retirement, Mr. Compton was able to pursue his lifelong love of music. To further his music education, he attended Kingsboro and Lehman College. He was a standout musician playing the tenor, alto and soprano saxophone in several bands in and around the Queens area.
William is survived by his two sons: David and Ronald; his 5 grandchildren and a host of great and great-great grandchildren. William is predeceased by his brother Walter and his two sisters Blanch and Marian.
He will be missed by his large extended family and his many friends and associates from the music venue in which he was active throughout the years.
His Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 30th, in our Fall River Chapel followed by his committal with Military Honors at Oak Grove Cemetery in Falmouth.
