Obituary

William "Bill" Rego Costa, 84, of Fall River died Monday after an illness. Husband of Gladys (Pearce) Costa. Born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel and Mary (Cabral) Rego Costa, Sr. A dairy and pig farmer, he owned farms in Fall River and Westport. He had also managed the farm at St. Vincent's Home and had worked at the former Frito Lay Co. for several years. Bill designed and had built his own barbeque trailer which he used to cook chicken dinners for many fundraisers in the area. An Army Veteran of WW II, he was past vice commander of American Legion Post #145, Westport. He also belonged to the Vietnam Veterans Post of Westport, the Farm Bureau,  Westport  Lions  Club and was a 4-H volunteer for many years. He was father of Mrs. Henry (Charlotte) F. Thomas, Jr. and Mrs. Normand (Margaret) Laurianno, Jr. both of Fall River, Mrs. Gregory (Claudette) Galhardo of Westport, Barbara Angelini of So. Yarmouth and Mary Lou Hadley of Bradenton, FL; brother of John Rego Costa (wife-Florence), Irene Rebello, Doris Mello and Mrs. Albert (Claudette) Dubreuil all of Fall River and the late Manuel Rego Costa, Jr. He had also been husband of the late Hilda (Varley) Costa and the late Jane (Hollihan) Costa. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a great great grandson, several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass, celebrated by Father Richard Chretien, was offered on Thursday (12/13) in Notre Dame Church. Committal services with military honors followed at Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers were Christopher Thomas, Mark Galhardo, Kristian Chown, William Thomas, Chris Ryan Thomas and Joshua McCallister. A delegation representing the American Legion was also in attendance.
