William Fonseca, 84, of Somerset, passed away Friday. Husband of Virginia A. (Mello) Fonseca, to whom he was married for 62 years. Born in Fall River, son of the late Frank Fonseca, Jr. and Antonia (Oliveira) Fonseca. A Korean and Vietnam War Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. After the service, he worked at the former Ainslee Corp. in Braintree until he retired. Bill and his wife enjoyed singing and sang not only for their church choir but also with the Cliftoneers and the Whipporells, two traveling groups that sang mostly at area nursing homes. He is survived by his 3 children, William R. (wife – Cheryl) and Richard (wife – Christine) Fonseca and Maryana F. Camara (husband – Brian); 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Frank (III), Edward and Mary Fonseca. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, February 12, in St. John of God Church followed by his committal with military honors at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.
