Fall River

Obituary

Zulmira "Zullie" (Cabral) Medeiros, 95, of Fall River, widow of the Diniz Medeiros, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Born in the Mosteiros, St. Michaels, Azores, daughter of the late Luis E. and Silvana (Silva) Cabral and step-daughter of the late Maria Conceicao Cabral, she was raised by her paternal grandparents Antonio & Maria Theresa Cabral, and emigrated to Fall River in 1948. She worked for many years in the local textile industry, and she and her husband owned and operated the former Medeiros Chourico. An active parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church, she was a member of its Lady's Guild and Holy Rosary Society. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. God blessed us with her for 95 years, and now she is home and at peace with Christ our King.

Surviving her are five children: Dennis Medeiros (wife Luisa) of Fall River, Mary Theresa Blouin (husband Philip) of Taunton, Fernando Medeiros (wife Theresa, deceased) of Fall River, Louis Medeiros (wife Elizabeth) of Fall River, and Steven Medeiros of Fall River. She also had twin daughters, Susan and Nancy, who predeceased her.

Zulmira is also survived by her sister, Lydia Medeiros (husband John, deceased) of Swansea, and brother, Dennis Cabral (wife Barbara) of Bridgewater. She is sister-in-law to Lorraine Cabral (wife of Zulmira's brother, the late Theodore "Teddy" Cabral). Also passing before her were her sisters, Mary Theresa Cabral (formerly of Mosteiros) and Virginia Banville (husband Arthur, deceased), and her brother, Louis Cabral.

She has seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Couto (husband Joseph), Madalena Medeiros (significant other Keith DiCorpo), Nicole Blouin (fiancé Mark Souza), Darrin Medeiros (wife Melissa), Rachel Estrella, Jared Medeiros, and Rebecca Moles (husband Robert). She leaves eight great-grandchildren: Austin and Dylan Estrella, Draven Amaral, Jordan and Trevor Medeiros, Alyssa and Cameron Moles, and Genevieve DiCorpo. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, April 19th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at the Notre Dame Mausoleum. In Zulmira's memory, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472
